China Resumes US Soybeans Purchase Amid Trade Deal Negotiations
China has purchased two cargoes of US soybeans, marking its first known order of the season. The MOVE signals a potential thaw in trade relations as officials from both nations prepare to finalize a new agreement. The shipment, booked for delivery later this year, follows groundwork laid during talks in Malaysia.
The deal could lead to a rollback of tariffs imposed during the trade war, including retaliatory measures enacted after China's Liberation Day. American farmers, who relied heavily on Chinese demand, stand to benefit from renewed trade flows. From 2020 to 2024, China imported 55 million metric tons of US soybeans before shifting to Brazilian and Argentinian suppliers.
